It finely embellished with classical Guilloché engine-turned engraving in elegant Napoleon III era style on the sterling silver blade, with a large cartouche decorated with acanthus and foliate. The handle is also made of sterling silver in fourré style, and having matching oval cartouche on the end. Circa 1890.
Hallmarked French Minerva No.1 Titre mark, to guarantee .950 purity sterling silver. This is one of the highest quality sterling silver in the world, purer than standard .925 sterling silver. Maker's mark in lozenge shape but not legible.
