Delighted to have for sale this very lovely and rare Late 19th Century Imperial Russian Solid 88 Silver & Enamel Cloisonné Open Salt Cellar, dated back 1896, Moscow. The Salt Cellar is fabulously decorated with various multi-coloured polychrome enamel and translucent enamel in the intricate pattern of wirework. The decor includes classic foliage scroll, fine pearlé border and flower. It has a boldly beautiful round shape and stands on three ball-shaped feet. The interior and the bottom has gorgeous gilt finish on the surface.
Hallmarked Russian silver quality mark of 88, which corresponds to 916.6/1000 purity solid silver (it's higher than standard Russian 84 silver, therefore this is quite rare). Maker's mark of N. Alekseyev. Essayer mark of Anatoly Apollonovich Artsybashev, whom worked in Moscow 1888-1898, dated 1896. City mark of Moscow, 1896.
